"Everybody Loves Atlantic Salmon-Here's the Catch"

1 of 10

"River of Dreams" After four years at sea, massive, wild Atlantic Salmon return to one of the few remaining healthy rivers in Eastern Canada. Many rivers have been wiped out and escaped farmed salmon are outnumbering wild salmon by as much as 12 to 1 in some rivers. In the US, Atlantic Salmon are listed as critically endangered.

Story Caption: As wild Atlantic Salmon populations falter and salmon farms go global, this noble sport fish has turned into chicken of the sea. Pound for pound, more pesticides and antiobiotics are used in the salmon farming industry than any other live stock industry on earth. Ironically, people are switching from beef to salmon in pursuit of a healthier diet but new scientific studies show that salmon can be quite unhealthy for both people and the environment
