"I'd be lying and remiss if I didn't say every day is a struggle," Elle Helmer, who was diagnosed with PTSD and suffers from anxiety and depression, says. Helmer was assaulted while serving in the Marines at Marine Barracks Washington after a mandatory pub crawl. Because alcohol was involved, she was not allowed to press charges and was eventually forced out of the Marines when she wouldn't stop trying to get the military to take action against her attacker.
