"GOD'S IVORY"
CHONDO, VIRUNGA NATIONAL PARK, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO, MARCH 2012: ICCN Congolese conservation rangers and members of the Congolese army capture illegal poachers inside the park boundaries, Chondo, Virunga. This group of rangers were on the trail of ivory poachers at the time of this arrest. It was not determined whether this poacher was responsible for the killing. Poverty in the region drives the illegal ivory trade and militia groups often benefit directly from its sale. They often employ impoverished locals for this work.
