A young girl from the aboriginal population in Yemen waits to be married in the early evening. The damage from child marriage can last a lifetime. Many families expect girls to become pregnant soon after marriage, but they often do not have information about reproductive health or access to obstetric services. Girls who marry early have exponentially increased risk of infant and maternal mortality. According to Save the Children, they and are more likely to have frequent and closely spaced pregnancies, furthering the risks. |
