Alberta Trujillo and her newborn daughter Nicole Garcia lie in a coffin in an East Los Angeles, California funeral home. They died in a hospital after complications arose during delivery. From a poor family in central Mexico, Alberta's wish was to be buried back in her native soil. Family and friends on the US side of the border, the majority of them in the country without documentation, were unable to join her on her trip back home and paid their respects at an East Los Angeles funeral home. This common dilemma has caused the Mexican Consulate to assist families and immigrants in getting their loved ones back to Mexico to be buried in their native soil. |
