Irma Monreal holds a photograph of her daughter Esmeralda, who, at the age of 14, was last seen October 29, 2001. Her body was found 8 days later on November 6, 2001. Her bruised and mutilated body was dumped in an dusty lot called Campo Algodonero, in a commercial area of Juarez, murdered by an unknown assailant. According to her mother, her hair was cut off and the skin on her face was ripped off. The bodies of 7 other girls were found in the same lot within a 3 day period
