The financial and economical sanctions against the
former Hamas government led to violent factional infightings in the
Palestinian territories. At the peak of the tension the militant group of
Hamas took over the control of the whole Gaza Strip from its rival, Fatah
within a few bloody days, while Fatah sieged the Hamas buildings in the West
Bank. The longed Palestinian state split into two parts politically as well,
as the Hamas forces controll the Gaza Strip and Fatah rules the Palestinian
Authority in theWest Bank area as Mahmoud Abbas announced a new government
shortly after the Hamas take over. The two palestinian factions don't intend
to negotiate so far, thus the wider Middle East peace deal seems to have no
chance to be achieved in the near future.
