"Only Woman Candidate"
Dr. Masouda Jalal , the sole woman candidate in
Afghanistan's Presidential elections prays before making a campaign speech
at a mosque in Kabul's Old City during a day of canvassing support. Dr.
Jalal was the only woman among the 18 candidates vying for the presidency.
She ran on a platform of respect for Islamic law and implementation of the
constitution while advancing reform of the judicial and administrative
