The family of Birtiala Tirky mourn after elephants rampaged through her village, tore down her house and ripped her out as she hid behind a bed in the village of Amdenga in Sonitpur district of Assam in Eastern India, January 2004. India and its sacred elephants are threatened by deforestation and encroachment of the reserved land and natural forests.
