The summer began well for Carly Patterson. She got her
driver's license and her braces off. But it was in
Athens where Patterson went from hopeful teenager to gymnastics legend. She
jumped into the arms of her coach and the dreams of every young gymnast. She
became a household name, an American icon, the next Mary Lou. GOLDEN GIRL -
TRAIN -- In the gym at WOGA, six-year-olds learn the basics of the balance
beam as Carly Patterson, left, practices her floor exercise during her final
workout before leaving for the 2004 Olympic Games. Carly's journey began the
same way as the youngsters in the background, but ten years and countless
hours in the gym later she would be off to follow her own Olympic dream.
