With only two auction houses left in southern Maryland, the first day of auction proves to be a highly anticipated social gathering. Tobacco farmers as well as those that have taken the buyout move up and down the aisles, communicating by grunts and mutters, inspecting what the tobacco had sold for, if it had sold at all. All too often, the price was so low that the farmer rejected the bid.
