"Salton Sea"
An abandoned vehicle rusts at the remains of a
community submerged by the rising Salton Sea, which receives irrigation
runoff water from the Imperial Valley Irrigation District. The water, which
has leeched the salt out of Colorado River-irrigated Southern California
farmland, once part of the river's vast delta, is also laden with pesticides
and fertilizer.
