"I don't want people to look at me
differently," said Jeremy Burr, 12, "I just want people to treat me
the same," said Burr, who was severely burned in a house fire, suffering
burns all over his body. Over the years the camp has increased Jeremy's self-image.
"There was a time when we couldn't get Jeremy to wear shorts
and short-sleeve shirts, but now he does it all the time," said his
grandmother.
Children who have survived life-altering
fires are treated to a week "to forget their scars and just be
children" at a Lake of the Ozarks camp. It is time for campers to make
new friends, to get away from assuming glances and to learn more about
themselves.
