"Future stars"
Ymker, 14 (right) listens as Sheker, 12, takes a turn
at bat on the playground at ITRRODDD (Institute for Training and Relief Rehabilitation
for Disabled, Distressed and Disinherited Children). Many of
the children at ITRRODDD are blind, including Ymker and Sheker, but are able
to play cricket by using their hearing and a rattling cricket ball. Many of
the children are transferred here from Shishu Vihar, the state orphanage
facility, where they are ill equipped to take care of children with such
severe disabilities and where they have little hope of being adopted by an
Indian family.
