Two months before this photograph was made, a new road came to this area. Because of its mineral wealth, more people are moving to this boom town. In turn, there are more and more pressures on the ecosystem. The amount of gold taken each year has increased by fifty percent in the last 20 years and for each ton of gold, three million tons of waste rock are churned up.
