Only 4 percent of Guyana is Amerindians, but the native people depend on fishing for the protein in their diets. They have noticed what scientific studies show, that with increased sedimentation from gold mining, they are catching fewer fish. They have to carry supplies further and further through thick vegetation to gather food.
