"Hot Spot" Rick Finney, an off-duty lieutenant with the Olympia Fire Department, tries to beat down a grass fire in the median of Highway 101 at the Crosby Road interchange. The fire, which started during the evening rush hour, prompted more than 100 calls to the 911 dispatch center. Other passersby and a Washington State trooper stopped with fire extinguishers that eventually knocked down the blaze, which burned about 50 yards of the median. Olympia firefighters arrived minutes later and watered down any remaining hot spots.
