POYi Awards and Educational Program

San Francisco is Host Site for the
Education and Awards Program

Pictures of the Year International will hold its annual education and awards program in the San Francisco Bay Area on Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28.

POYi just concluded three weeks of intense judging of more than 44,000 images. Now we invite the winners to participate in the education and professional development program, and to receive their awards. The two-day program will include: six presentations from the premiere award recipients; a panel discussion on the evolution of multimedia; a Fotovision cooperative presentation by Alex and Rebecca Webb; two POYi slideshows; and the prestigious awards ceremony.

POYi will be working in partnership with the University of California-Berkeley, San Francisco State University, and San Jose State University to host this extraordinary recognition of the world’s best photojournalists. Our objective with this partnership is to provide career development and motivation for professional photojournalists and visual editors, plus offer the host universities with study enrichment opportunities for their students.

An overview of the working schedule for the Friday and Saturday event looks like this:

Friday evening: The opening reception and exhibition will be held in the heart of San Francisco at the newly renovated Emporium downtown center. San Francisco State University has provided spectacular venue space at their downtown campus in the Westfield San Francisco Centre, overlooking the Emporium’s main atrium.

Saturday: The full-day education and awards program will be co-sponsored by the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of California at Berkeley. This program will honor work from the premiere winners such as the Newspaper Photographer of the Year, the World Understanding recipient, and the Magazine Photographer of the Year, among others. The program will conclude with a reception at the North Gate Hall courtyard on the UC campus, and will including a silent print auction to benefit the POYi Endowment.

We expect to attract the world’s best photojournalists and visual editors to join us for this remarkable event. Detailed information on hotel accommodations and program schedule will be available on this Web site.
