'BLACKBALL' Harold Gould holds onto one of his
souvenir baseballs. These are the men who played in the Negro Baseball
League when it was the only place they could play. It has shaped their lives
and fortunes and become an integral part of who they are. There is a quiet
dignity and humble pride to this generation of ballplayers who were denied
the opportunity to play in the major leagues just because of the color of
their skin. They have been passing away at an alarming rate and it is the
goal of this project to photograph the remaining players and let them tell
their story.
