Bystanders take cover and try to push cars trapped by
the blast away from the resulting walls of flame.
On Saturday May 7, 2005 a suicide car bomb targeting
a passing civilian contractor convoy exploded, killing 22 and wounding more
than 35 more in crowded Tahrir Square in central Baghdad, Iraq. Merely a
block away at the time, the photographer captured these images of the chaotic
scene, the dead and the wounded, including 5 Iraqi school girls from a nearby
school who had been boarding the school mini-bus a dozen meters from the
massive blast.
