Award of Excellence
Jamie Francis The Oregonian
The Silverton Chamber of Commerce says their town
hosts the nation's longest running pet parade. Each spring since the late
30's, any animal has been welcome to march through town with their owner. The
parade is a tribute to Bobbie, the Farm Collie who was lost in Indiana in
1923 and traveled more than 2,800 miles in six months to reach his owners in
Silverton. Missy, a two-and-a-half year old Chihuahua, was at this year's
parade in May with her owner, Teesha Larson, 11. Missy is dressed as she
often is, as a cheerleader to match Larson and her school mates.
