An excited Liberian woman casts her ballot for
president in the first election since the end of
Liberia's 14-year civil war. This was the first time
that this woman had ever voted. Women, who turned out
in large numbers, were instrumental in the victory of
Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, the first democratically
elected female head of state in Africa.
