"KATRINA'S LEGACY"

1 of 12

"EXHAUSTED BUT ALIVE" Seven-year-old Dillon Chancey and his parents clung to trees and rooftops to survive the deadly storm surge that demolished their Biloxi home. Exhausted but alive, Dillon helps comb through the rubble to find what's left of their belongings.

Summary: No one anticipated the destructive force of Hurricane Katrina and the human tragedy that would be left in its wake. As gale force winds flattened homes in Mississippi, muddy-waters flooded much of New Orleans, leaving thousands of America's poorest stranded without food, water, or aid. The living were left to flounder, while the dead floated uncovered for days. Both were treated without the decency and dignity every person deserves. No explanation could comfort those who waited so long. The legacy of Katrina is another sad chapter in the history of America.
