"Boulderers"
The Boulderers make the early moring
walk out to'Campground Boulders' while carrying there Bouldering Pads (crash
mats) on their backs) May 12, 2005. The Grampian Ranges.
Areas in the Grampians have been
rock climbed since the early 60s with Bouldering only emerging in the 80s
however nothing of any note was developed until roving Austrians arrived in
1999 led by Klem Loskot and Toni Lamprecht. This was the kickstart of the
Australian bouldering scenand established world class problems at the upper
end of the difficulty scale putting Australian Bouldering on the map. Much
of boulderings pleasure is derived from its inherent risk, boulderers attempt
to
minimize this risk by employing thin crash mats (boulder pads) and friends
spotting them, that is trying to guide a falling climber onto the crash mat
and away from danger.
