Sixteen-year-old Micah Eveland, Backus, waits with
his quarter horse, Snort, for his turn to compete in the Minnesota High
School Region 5 Rodeo in Little Falls, at the Morrison County Fairgrounds.
Eveland, who has been in rodeo for 6 or 7 years, said 'I like the adrenalin
rush.'
Despite the steady soaking of a late-summer
downpour, members of the Minnesota High School Rodeo Association assembled in
Little Falls, MN to participate in the Region 5 Rodeo to determine who would
advance to the state rodeo championships. Mud-splattered contestants competed
in events ranging from steer wrestling and barrel racing to goat tying in
hopes that they might move on in the competition. The rodeo also provides a
means for forging lasting relationships, as contestants and their families
spend many hours together throughout the rodeo season competing and ensuring
that their passion for rodeo and the opportunity to participate at the high
school level continues thrive.
