Living on the streets of the world's roughest town can do things to a
woman. In a society where half of the population
is discouraged from working or leaving home without a male escort, Najaat
Al-Abaadie lives alone on the streets. The teenage drifter slipped through
the cracks of Iraqi society and was left homeless when her father accused her
of dishonoring the family. Now she is an outcast to the men as well as the
women, but with no male relatives to protect or provide for her, Najaat must
rely on strangers to survive. She has little choice but to use her body to
get the attention and protection she needs and wants.
