"Command Performance" Standing up for a reward of grape jelly is only one of over 50 commands Ruth LaBarge's trained bear, Barney knows. "They're so intelligent," she says of both Barney and her other bears she trains for the entertainment industry. LaBarge's dream is far different from her trained bears' lifestyle. She hopes to set aside land for brown bears in California so that residents can see their state animal in its natural habitat.
