A setting sun sparkles off Megan Cannan's dress as her mother, Barb, watches her leave for the dance with her date, Tyler, and their friends. Like many girls, Megan shopped for and eventually purchased her dress with her mother.

"Fifty bucks. I'm not paying fifty bucks. I had the cheapest thing on the menu," said Chris Paffrath, while settling the bill with his friends at one of the Western Chicago suburbs nicest restaurants. Paffrath, a senior, attended the dance with his girlfriend, Kim Carli, center, and three other couples.

For $65 a couple, 425 couples attended Waubonsie Valley High School's yearly dance ritual at the Radisson Hotel.

"It's sad," says Kim Carli of prom night. "This is our last dance together." After the dance, many kids got hotel rooms to spend the early morning hours together. Missy Dugan, center, and Megan Cannan try to hold a conversation admid the chaos of the late night celebration.

"Big kicks. Now, little kicks," Brianna Timothy tells her students in the beginning swimming class at Phillips Park swimming pool. Brianna teaches four-year-olds, the youngest students in the swimming program, how to get comfortable with the water as well as some basic skills.
