Photographers, editors, and multimedia producers who were honored in the 68th annual POYi competition are invited to join the Newseum and Pictures of the Year International in celebrating the opening of the Pictures of the Year exhibition.

Guests are invited to tour the new exhibit and visit with winning photographers.

Photo Day at the Newseum

Everyone is welcome to join the Newseum and Pictures of the Year International for a special Photo Day at the Newseum, sponsored exclusively by Nikon. Activities include:

Pictures of the Year International Lecture Series
Documentary Theater, Concourse Level

Get a behind-the-lens look at the events, issues and people who shaped our world in 2010 from the photojournalists who captured these unforgettable moments.

• Steve Winter, Global Vision Award, 10 a.m.
Freelance photographer Steve Winter chronicled the efforts of park rangers to protect endangered big-game wildlife from poachers in the shrinking wilderness of India's Kaziranga National Park. Winter's winning photo essay ran in National Geographic magazine.

• Damon Winter, Newspaper Photographer of the Year, 11 a.m.
New York Times staff photographer Damon Winter was on the front lines of two of the year's biggest stories: the war in Afghanistan and the earthquake in Haiti. In 2009, Winter won the Pulitzer Prize for feature photography for his coverage of Barack Obama's presidential campaign.

• Adrees Latif, Freelance/Agency Photographer of the Year, noon
Adrees Latif, chief photographer in Pakistan for the Reuters news agency, documented the floods that displaced 4 million Pakistanis in the summer of 2010, as well as conflicts in other countries. In 2008, he received a Pulitzer Prize for his dramatic image of a Japanese photographer killed by troops in Burma.

Join us for the Newseum's fast-paced game of headlines and deadlines. Teams search historic newspapers featuring famous photos for the key elements of a front page, then race across a giant game board. The first team to "start the presses" wins -- but look out for surprise pitfalls along the way!

The New York Times-Ochs-Sulzberger Family Great Hall of News, Level 1

The Newseum's iconic architecture and exhibits provide the backdrop for this roving hands-on workshop for amateurs and aspiring photojournalists. Bring a camera and take home some eye-catching photographs and new tricks to making the most of your next photo opportunity.

Inside Media: "Photographers of the Year" Damon Winter and Adrees Latif, 2:30 p.m.

New York Times photographer Damon Winter and Reuters photographer Adrees Latif, both named 2010 "Photographer of the Year" by Pictures of the Year International, display their award-winning work and talk about their coverage of some of the biggest news stories of the year.

The New York Times-Ochs-Sulzberger Family Great Hall of News, Level 1

Explore the collection of notable Washington, D.C., photographer William Fall. Browse some of his photographs and see the equipment he used to capture presidents, politicians and important events in the nation's capital from 1905 to 1945.

Photo Scavenger Hunt, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Information Desk, Level 1

See the Newseum from a new perspective. To win this hunt, you'll need a camera, a keen eye and a creative mind. Complete all the photo challenges and win a prize.

Admission Note:
RSVP is not necessary for the POYi Photo Day on Saturday, April 30. However, attendance requires a standard admission ticket to the Newseum.
POYi award winners are provided complimentary admission to both the reception on the 29th and Photo Day on the 30th, but must RSVP by Wednesday, April 27 to mpetrozza@newseum.org or 202/292-6565.
